Caterpillar Green

Yesterday morning I woke up and wanted to paint something. I have been talking to Ben a bit about painting our main bathroom a bright green. Green is my all time favorite color. So after a quick trip to Home Depot and a few hours later we now have a bright green bathroom!

All my accessories were already black and white so nothing really changed I just shopped around my house a bit.

Where the photo above is, there used to be a medicine cabinet. I never liked it and there was hardly anything in it so I took it down. This photo is not permanent but I needed something for the space.  



It’s definitely now the boldest room in the house!

Rockford the Fireplace

2 posts in 1 day!!! I finally have a few minutes to talk about finishing up the fireplace!! It was no easy task and it made me a little crazy but it look so much better!! Here’s the before:

Such a monstrosity!!!

When we first moved in I really like it. I liked the how the two vents and the actually fireplace looked like a face. (Hence naming it Rockford) but then as my living room started coming together it was looking more and more out of place. We thought about taking the fake rock off and dry walling then tiling or something but that seemed expensive. I think we might eventually do that but for now I already had the paint and decided to just go for it. You can read about the insane task of painting it here.

After I finished painting it. It’s actually more gray then white…

Then as I mentioned before my Step Dad Tommy works in construction and at the time he was building a house way up in the woods! The property owner had a mini mill and was mostly using trees from his property to build the house. I happened to call Tommy at just the right time saying I need a fireplace mantel! I really really need one! At work the next day, talks to the extremely nice homeowner and he trots down to his mill and makes me a mantel! For free!!! I couldn’t believe I was so lucky!

One day while  I was at work Tommy came and cut the rocks and installed the mantel for me! It was a little scary to walk in and see missing rocks but he assusred me he could fix it. After this step there was so much dust! it was nuts how much dust fake rocks make!

Finally after the rocks were reattached and 5 coats of stain. Excuse the Christmas stockings, this happened awhile ago.

Fireplace...

So I finally finished the one of the hardest, most annoying projects ever! I may or may not have hit it with a paint brush. This thing has so many cracks and holes it was hard. Anyways onto the pictures!

So while I think it's better I don't think it's what I want... I have added some twig branches to it and it's styled a little more then it is in these pictures but it's still off. (I've been trying to take a picture of it but this daylight savings thing is messing up the light in my house, maybe tomorrow when I'm off work) My amazing Step Dad had a mantel made for me so I'm hoping that will be just what he needs. I am so excited to decorate a mantel!

Fall Wreath

Last night I had about 15 minutes after dinner and I decided the make a cute wreath that I had seen on Thrifty Decor Chick, it's super simple and she has a great tutorial here

Yesterday on my lunch break I ran to the $1.00 store and bought these and a simple 8x10 frame.

I bought 3 packages but I only used maybe a full one, but it was nice to have the different colors in each bag.

About 15 minutes and a few hot glue gun burns later I had this one my front door:

I really like it! I think the fall colors look great on my black door.

And a little follow up on project that I think is going to be the death of me:

Painting the fake rock fire place. I haven't gotten far, and it's freaking hard! It's more of a gray color then what the picture shows, so far I am indifferent about it. I kind of like it and I kind of don't. We'll see if I finish it or just tear it down and start over with drywall and tile maybe.

This is what I am working on right now:

A stencil on Layla's wall! The photo's make it look silver but it's really a pearl white, which is looking great on the bright green walls!

Painting!

Every time I finish painting a room in our house I think I am so much closer to having this house all painted!!! But not really, even after it's done I'll want to change something. (Ben loves this...) Anyways here's a break down of all the rooms we've painted and what we still have left to do or change.

Living Room (or main living area): When we moved in this had recently been painted... Nacho Cheese colored...

Here's a picture just after we moved in. (Rockford the fireplace) That color was the first color to cover up. We painted Silver Leaf over it, which I had hope for a off white but looks just white...

Yeah it looks completely different on my walls...

Kitchen: The kitchen was a weird brown color with very dark brown cabinets. We painted the cabinets Black (Ebony by Behr) and the walls Dolphin Fin again by Behr. I love this color, it looks almost lavender gray.

But I have recently decided that I want my kitchen to be green. Maybe I'll move this color down to the guest room.

Master bedroom: I posted about this awhile ago but it's Dark Ash by Behr. Wow most of my colors are Behr but I rarely buy Behr paint, I normally have it color matched into Home Depot's Speed Dry it runs about $11.00 a gallon.

I really like this color, I think it's sexy.

Layla's Room: Tinkerbell, which I just posted about.

Downstairs: Family Room: It's a Greige color that I can't show a picture of since I had it mixed about 5 times. It started as a Martha Stewart color but I can't remember what it was.

It looks gray here, but it's really not. The white is the Silver Leaf that I had left over from the upstairs.

Guest Room: Is white... Our sellers left all of their paint and they had almost of full gallon of white paint. This is the smallest room in the house and after we moved in I just wanted to get 1 room close to finished. It was hideous with very dark paneling now it's bright and white.

Still to Paint:

• 3 bathrooms (upstairs, master and guest)
• Play Room (another all paneling room with red carpet)
• Kitchen again
• Stairs
  
  I did nothing on the stairs last night. We went grocery shopping and then I just wanted to relax. Oh wait I did measure them to know how long of a runner I was going to need. 10 foot by the way. I think I will just get a few smaller ones and make it work, way cheaper.
  

Friday & Painted Wall Paper!

The family room is so close to being finished! One wall needs one more coat and I have another half wall I need to finish doing this to:

I have been dying to do a stencil on a wall and then a few days ago I ran across Jones Design Company's Blog. And fell in love! Emily blogged about this and even posted a template. I did mine a little easier  different and am loving it!  I am hoping to finish the other little wall tonight and get a second coat on it all. I'll let you know the details next week.

It's my lucky day!!! And I feel the pressure!

We are painting our basement family room right now (well more like I'm painting it). I finally just went with the last color we had retinted and the more I stare at it the more I like it. I made Ben walk out of the room, then come back in with his eyes closed, open them and give me his first thought. This was a few nights ago but I think he said he liked it. Here are some bad pictures of it.

On the right side of the pic, paneling I painted white! Loves it!

I think it looks brown-er in person. The brick you see over there is from where a wood stove used to be, I normally keep it covered. Below in the picture is more of the paneling I recently painted white. WHAT a difference!

So there are these two little walls on both sides of the brick and I am thinking about doing a stencil, like painted wallpaper... And I need all of this done by Feb. 11th cause my Dad and Step mom Brenda will be here for 6 days. The guest room and our main TV is in this area and I want it to look and feel homey. I also have some closet doors I need to paint and the house needs to be spotless. Agh, I always take on way to much at once.

Painting....

It's official! Were painting the master suite (I love to call it that) tomorrow! It's going to be dark and moody! Well dark anyways. Here's the color:
