Layla's Birth Story

Linking up with The Vintage Apple to share Layla's birth story!

The week leading up to Layla's birth was a little crazy! My Dad and Step Mom were in town staying with us, my brother got into some trouble and my OB broke his leg downhill bike racing... Yeah, he's in his 60's. Layla was due on 8/10/08, I remember going to see my OB and on 8/8 and being told nothing was happening. I might have lost it in his office. So we set up induction for Sunday 8/10. Well my older brother Eddie decided to get into some trouble and wreak my Dad's rental car Saturday night... & then I got a call from my OB's office saying my Ob had broke his leg. So I postponed my induction. A few days later I saw a different OB (who was really hot by the way, I had seen him in the practice before and told Ben I do not want him to deliver me, he's too attractive!) and he suggested we set up another appt to be induced, Thursday 8/14/12 it was!

We headed to the hospital Thursday morning and around at 6:00am got my first pill called... um something with a C inserted around 7:00am not much happened. I had to stay in bed for 2.5 hours after getting the pill so I just hung out. Around 12:15pm I got my second pill and around 2:30pm I started to have contractions. Nothing horrible but it wasn`t like everyone had described to me. It wall all in my lower back. Around 5:00pm or so I had some visitors and we started walking the halls and the contractions really picked up. At 6:30pm my water broke and the contractions were pretty bad! But all in my back, I never felt anything in my tummy. I was only 2 cm dilated. Around 7:30pm we had a nurse change and then my knight in shining nurse came in! Dennis was amazing and made the whole experience so nice! Around 9:30pm I finally got my epidural, it was heaven! I was able to rest and relax. At 10:30pm I was 5 cm dilated and still feeling really well. Took a few naps and at 2:00am-ish I was 9 cm dilated I got a little nervous when I heard that! Not much longer and I was at 10! I pushed for about an hour and a half a then there she was! Born on 8/15/08 at 4:50am. She was a little peanut at 5lb 12oz 19 inches long. She was perfect and hardly cried!

Seriously the best moment of my life and even after 4 years I still remember it like it was yesterday. I hope this baby’s birth is a little more uneventful leading up to the big day! I’ve already told my OB he is not allowed to break his leg again.

Here's Layla Louise at 6 days old:
