Chevron Wall Part 2

A few weekends ago I finished going down the stairs on my Chevron Wall! (When I started here)Well Ben finished using his Mighty Math Powers (Woo Team UmiZoomi!) to map (math) the rest of it out. That process takes for freaking ever, then there’s taping it and getting perfect edges, then finally the easy part painting!!! I love it! It makes me happy every time I got up or down the stairs. Next up is to go around the wall down the set of stairs that go into the basement.
Ben and his lil Helper

I really love it! It took a super boring wall and made it really fun!
Tomorrow I will be back with the first few days of #MarchPhotoADay

Caterpillar Green

Yesterday morning I woke up and wanted to paint something. I have been talking to Ben a bit about painting our main bathroom a bright green. Green is my all time favorite color. So after a quick trip to Home Depot and a few hours later we now have a bright green bathroom!
Caterpillar Green

All my accessories were already black and white so nothing really changed I just shopped around my house a bit.

Where the photo above is, there used to be a medicine cabinet. I never liked it and there was hardly anything in it so I took it down. This photo is not permanent but I needed something for the space.

It’s definitely now the boldest room in the house!

Quick Makeover

I bought this little bar cart at the yard sale about a month ago. I think I paid $2.00. It was ugly but I wanted a little extra storage outside. I think someone made it with pvc pipe...

Here's the before:
Ohhh hunter green! Loves it!

And after:
Hello, Baby Layla & Baby Daisy.

Totally not gold.

I wanted it metallic gold and made a special trip to get the spray paint. BUT the paint I bought was not gold, it was very silver... WTF. Oh well I went with it, and it turned out cute

Tuesday!

Good Morning!! Kind of a mix of stuff post! This weekend was beautiful! Almost hot and so nice! Friday night Layla went to my Mom's (they had big plans to plant a garden Saturday) and Ben and I brought Trent the tent trailer home! I have missed him! Saturday morning Ben worked on the yard and I started painting Trent.

He's going from this:

To this:
Bye Bye 70's! The color is more of a light tan then a white. Every piece of woodgrain in this little beast will be painted! It's already making it look bigger and making the yellowness look better. Side note, I love the floor! I am not planning on doing anything to it! The different shades of yellow make me happy!

After working on Trent most of the day we headed down to my brother's. He lives in a historic part of town in a mansion that has been converted into apartments. Anyways every year the neighborhood does a huge Art Fest in the park about a block away from his house and about two blocks away a bar called the Elk does Elk Fest. Lots of live music, food, art. It's so nice to have Eddie live so close we spent most of the day on his front porch people watching. And I noticed something that have seen a million times but never really looed at, the wall paper in the hallways of his mansion!

So pretty!!!

Have a great week! I hope everyone has nice weather! I think summer might have found the Inland Northwest!

Kitchen Floor!

I actually finished this last week, but blogger has been crazy to me. I finished it about 12:30am Friday night. I like it but I'm not 100% sold on it. So far it's holding up really well! We had a bbq on Saturday so lots of people walking on it and I have a toddler who took her big wheel, plastic lawn mower, shopping cart and stroller all over it.

It's hard to tell that the new floor is actually this color :

Cool Cucumber by Behr.

Here is an up close of the detail

Just simple stencil I got at Michael's. Overall a really easy project, two coats of primer, two coats of paint and four coats of poly. Totally a big differece!

The floor is now primed! I can't believe the difference it has already made.

Dresser Done!

Happy Monday! I actually got around to painting the dresser I bought last Thursday! I went with black... I really wanted a fun bright color but nothing seemed right in the room.

Anyways here's the before:
I loved the feet on it and the handles! And the size, ok I love it all!

After:

I scrubbed these handles forever!!! But totally worth it! I like the way the gold looks on the black.

And this morning, Layla opening all the drawers!

I also found another dresser this weekend, for Layla's big girl room! At a yard sale for $10.00! I'm thinking a light pink color for it.

Have a fabulous week!!

Dresser!

Yesterday I took the day off to spend with my Grandma and Grandpa who are up from Fresno, CA. Yesterday it rained, snowed, hailed, thundered and lightning... But we (My Mom, Grandparents, Layla, Me and my older brother) got in my Mom's bus of a car and went thrift store shopping. I got this cute dresser (bad cell phone picture) for $40.00, I'm going to put it in my living room as a sofa sort of table.

I'm torn on what color to paint it. My living room has Sliver Leaf walls, olive greenish furniture, and black coffee and end tables. My first thought was black, but I almost want a bright fun color. Like the ever popular turquoise... Or white, yellow, green. I don't know. Any ideas?

Have a great weekend!

Dying Curtains

The other day we were grocery shopping and almost done when I said I want some fabric dye! After I painted Layla's room I couldn't find curtains I wanted, so I bought some plain white ones. Then at one of my weekly Target trips I found a really pretty set of light pink curtains, they were perfect but $24.99 a panel. No thanks. So I bought this for $1.89ish.

I bought the powder dye. Super easy to do, heat 2 cups of almost boiling water (I did it in the microwave) fill both sinks up with enough water that the curtains could move freely, toss the a curtain in each sink and pour 1 cup of dye in each one.

I got a little nervous here, they were bright!

But after they sat in the dye for about 15 minutes I washed them and now they look like this:
(Sorry it was a rainy day when I took these pictures)
This one is the closest to the true color. No pictures of them hanging yet because when we took down the old mini blinds they left pretty big holes, I need to spackle and touch up the paint.

Tomorrow Layla's school is closed for Good Friday, so Mom and Dad are taking the day off! Were going to color Easter eggs and plant something for Earth Day, have a wonderful weekend!

From That to This!

Happy Friday! I took some quick pictures of the painted stairs, I am so happy with them!!

So here's the before:

The top set

The bottom set
I had first thought this carpet was original to the house (1979) but after I ripped off the carpet I saw lots of pieces of dark red carpet... I'm thinking the whole house had dark red carpet. Gross.

During:

And After (for now)

I still need the trim on the sides and backs and add a runner (no luck at Big Lots) but they feel so much better! You would never know that they were particle board!

Have a great weekend!!!

Mirror Re Do

I bought this mirror at a thrift store awhile ago, I forgot a before so I found this one online. It looks just like this but a little bigger and with out the candle part. As soon as I saw it I thought it would be perfect painted pink and in Layla's room! It was $2.99.

Very lovely gold.

Here's the after. It look about 5 light coats to get it the pink I wanted.
You can also see the green of Layla's walls in these photos!

I hung it low for her, and she loves it! She was instantly in front of it saying "Hi Layla!" and fixing her hair!

Stair Progress!

Good Monday Morning! I have progress on the stairs!!! Not much but a little bit is going a long way! Friday night Ben and I painted the trim and back of the stairs white.

Here's a good before that shows the ugly dark drown trim on the sides of the stairs and the very rough looking backs of the stairs.
Gross! That ugly brown trim is everywhere in my house.

Ahhh here is the after, with nice white trim and white backs of the stairs! It's actually Sliver Leaf which as I've said before is white in my house.

Saturday night Ben went into town to see a band play so I painted a few of the stair tops (I think they are called treads) I only painted every other one since I still have to use the stairs and I needed to stand on one to paint another one. So here's the after with the treads black!

My little helper at the top. I can't believe the difference this is making! I only painted the top set since Ben didn't have time to tape off the bottom set. I hate taping. Tonight I am hoping to get the other ones painted on these and every other one stair on the bottom ones. By Thursday I am hoping to have them all painted and ready for poly!

Also, any tips on mobile blogging? I tried to do it Saturday and it posted to some random blog...

No turning back now...

Snow Day!

We have been hit by a pretty big snow storm! Layla's school is closed today so Mom got the day off! It really doesn't look that bad out there. (Saying that from home in my pj's). Here's our back yard a few minutes ago:

So Layla and I have big plans to play today! During nap time I am going to rip the carpet up on our stairs. It's gross, our house was built in 1979 and it still has the original carpet in it. Agh that's gross to think about. Laminate floors are in our future but not our immediate future and since I hate vacuuming the stairs and they seem to be the worse I am tackling them! Here are my before pictures, wow they look really bad.

This is looking down from the living room.
And this is the second set, going into the basement. Yuck! Rhoda at Southern Hospitality did this Amazing stair re-do that convinced me to whip our gross stairs into gear!

I'll post durings, tears and afters. Have a great Thursday!!
